privacy policy.
Radial is a proximity-first social app. We need a small, specific set of personal information to make that work — your location, the photos you upload, and a few things you tell us about yourself. We hold that data to a high standard. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we collect, how we use it, who it's shared with, and the controls you have.

1. who we are.
"Radial," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the operator of the Radial application, including the iOS app, our website, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can reach us at privacy@joinradial.com.
2. information we collect.
We collect only what we need to run Radial. The categories below cover everything we collect from or about you.
2.1 information you provide.
- Account information. Phone number (for verification), first name, age (we store your birth year and derive age — we do not display your birthday), gender (optional), and the gender(s) you'd like to discover.
- Profile content. Photos you upload, optional bio, optional prompts, and similar profile fields you choose to fill in.
- Communications. Short notes you send to mutual connections, support requests, and any other messages you send to us.
- Reports and feedback. When you report another user or submit feedback, we collect what you tell us in that report.
2.2 information collected automatically.
- Location data. When you actively go live on Radial, we collect your approximate location to compute distances to other users who are also live. See section 3 for the full picture.
- Device and technical data. Device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, IP address, and coarse identifiers used for security, abuse prevention, and crash reporting.
- Usage data. Anonymized events about how you use features (for example, when you go live, when you send interest, when a match occurs) so we can improve the product. We do not attach the content of your interactions to advertising profiles.
- Push tokens. If you enable notifications, we store a per-device push token used to send you alerts (e.g. mutual matches).
2.3 information from third parties.
- Phone verification. Our SMS/OTP provider tells us whether a verification code was successfully entered.
- Crash and analytics tooling. We may receive de-identified crash and performance data from Apple and our analytics provider.
2.4 what we don't collect.
We do not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera roll unless you grant a specific permission for a specific feature (for example, picking a photo from your library). We do not embed third-party advertising SDKs. We do not sell, rent, or lease your personal information.
3. how we use location.
Location is the heart of Radial — and the area where we apply the most restraint.
- Location is only collected while you're "live." When you close the app or end your live session, we stop collecting your location.
- We never display your precise coordinates. Other users only see an approximate distance band (e.g. "about 40m away") — never a map, address, pin, heading, or trajectory.
- Distance is computed server-side from coarse coordinates. We round and bucket coordinates to limit how precisely your position could be inferred even by a determined observer.
- Background location is not used. Radial only requests "while using the app" location permission. We do not track you when the app isn't open, and we don't build a history of where you've been.
- You can stop sharing at any time. Tap "go offline" inside the app, revoke location permission in your device settings, or delete your account.
4. photos and profile content.
Photos you upload are stored on our infrastructure and are shown to other users only as part of your profile. We may run automated checks on uploaded photos to enforce our rules (for example, detecting nudity or screenshotted images). These checks are limited to safety and eligibility — we do not use your photos to train general-purpose AI models, and we do not license them to third parties.
When you remove a photo from your profile, we delete it from active systems within 30 days, and from backups in line with our backup rotation (see section 10).
5. how we use your information.
We use the data described above to:
- Run the core Radial experience — show you nearby people who are also live, accept your interest, and create mutual connections.
- Verify your phone number and prevent duplicate or fraudulent accounts.
- Send transactional notifications (mutual matches, new notes, account alerts) and, if you opt in, occasional product updates.
- Detect, investigate, and respond to abuse, harassment, fraud, and violations of our Terms.
- Diagnose crashes, measure performance, and improve features through aggregated analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
6. how mutual matches work.
Radial is built around mutual interest. Until two people have both signaled interest, neither is told that the other did. Specifically:
- When you tap a dot to express interest, the other person is not notified, does not see a "like," and cannot infer that you took any action.
- If they later express interest in you, Radial reveals the mutual match to both of you simultaneously, including your profiles and the one short note feature available between mutual connections.
- Once unmatched or blocked, both directions of the relationship are ended and the related data is removed from each side's view of the app.
7. who we share data with.
7.1 other users.
While you're live, other live users in your vicinity who match your discovery preferences can see your first name, age, photos, optional bio, and an approximate distance band. They do not see your phone number, email, exact location, account history, or any data outside your visible profile.
7.2 service providers.
We share limited data with the vendors who help us run Radial, described in section 8. These vendors are contractually required to use the data only to provide services to us and to protect it appropriately.
7.3 legal and safety.
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to: (a) comply with a law, regulation, court order, or other legal process; (b) enforce our Terms; (c) protect the rights, property, or safety of users, Radial, or the public; or (d) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues.
7.4 corporate transactions.
If Radial is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice (for example, by email or in-app) before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
7.5 with your consent.
We may share information for purposes other than those listed when you direct us to or otherwise expressly consent.
7.6 we don't sell your data.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not engage in "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California's privacy laws.
8. service providers and processors.
Radial relies on a small set of trusted vendors to run the Services. Categories include:
- Cloud hosting and databases (e.g. our backend infrastructure provider) — store account, profile, and operational data.
- Object storage and media delivery — store and serve uploaded photos.
- SMS / phone verification — deliver one-time codes for sign-in.
- Push notification gateways — Apple Push Notification service for iOS notifications.
- Email delivery — for transactional and waitlist messages.
- Crash reporting and analytics — diagnose stability issues and measure feature usage in aggregate.
- Customer support — respond to your messages and reports.
- Abuse and safety tooling — automated screening for prohibited content.
We can provide a current list of named sub-processors on request to privacy@joinradial.com.
9. legal bases for processing (eea, uk).
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the Services you've signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Services secure, prevent abuse, improve features, and operate our business, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — for things like access to your photo library, push notifications, and optional marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and lawful requests.
10. how long we keep data.
- Active account data — kept while your account is active, plus a short window after deletion for fraud and dispute resolution.
- Location data — coarse coordinates are retained only as long as needed to compute proximity in your live session. We do not maintain a persistent location history.
- Photos — removed from active systems within 30 days of deletion or account closure; older copies are purged from rotating encrypted backups within 90 days.
- Reports and safety records — kept for a longer period (typically up to 24 months) to identify repeat offenders and protect users, even after the reported account is deleted.
- Anonymized aggregates — usage statistics that no longer identify you may be retained indefinitely.
11. your rights and choices.
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Access — get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — fix inaccurate data (most fields can be edited directly in the app).
- Deletion — delete your account and the associated personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / restriction — object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent, withdraw it at any time.
- Lodge a complaint — with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@joinradial.com from the email address associated with your account, or use the in-app "delete my account" flow under Settings → Account.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
12. how we protect data.
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect personal information, including TLS in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, access controls and audit logging on production systems, and a principle-of-least-privilege approach to vendor access. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever experience an incident affecting your data, we will notify you and any required regulators promptly, in line with applicable law.
13. international transfers.
Radial is operated from the United States, and our infrastructure may process data in the United States and other countries. If you access the Services from outside the country where the data is processed, your information will be transferred to and processed in those jurisdictions. Where required, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate transfer mechanisms to protect personal data transferred from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland.
14. age limits and minors.
Radial is not intended for, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under 18 years old. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact privacy@joinradial.com and we will remove the account and associated data.
15. regional disclosures.
15.1 united states (california, virginia, colorado, connecticut, utah, etc.).
If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the rights described in section 11, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain types of processing. Radial does not "sell" personal information for money, and does not "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require the right to limit under the CPRA. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we will verify both your identity and the agent's authority before responding.
15.2 european economic area, united kingdom, switzerland.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, our legal bases are listed in section 9. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. The data controller for your information is the Radial entity that operates the Services; you can request the controller's contact details from privacy@joinradial.com.
16. changes to this policy.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date at the top of the page and, for material changes, give you advance notice (for example, by email or in-app banner). If you continue to use the Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated policy.
17. contact us.
